Delhi-NCR Braces for Another Spell of Heavy Rain as IMD Issues Orange Alert

Delhi-NCR Braces for Another Spell of Heavy Rain as IMD Issues Orange Alert

New Delhi, July 11: After two consecutive days of intense rainfall, Delhi-NCR residents woke up to cloudy skies, cool winds, and pleasant weather on Friday. While the improved conditions brought temporary relief from high humidity, the India Meteorological Department (IMD) has warned that the respite may be short-lived.

The weather department has issued an Orange Alert for Delhi-NCR, forecasting another round of heavy rainfall that could trigger waterlogging, traffic congestion, and disruptions across the region. Authorities have advised residents to remain cautious, avoid unnecessary travel during periods of intense rain, and stay updated with official weather advisories.

According to the IMD, rainfall intensity is expected to gradually reduce after July 11, but heavy showers throughout the day may continue to affect low-lying areas, roads, construction sites, and industrial zones.

The impact of the monsoon is being felt beyond the capital as well. Several districts in Uttar Pradesh remain under Red and Orange Alerts, with the possibility of extremely heavy rainfall in parts of western and central UP. Meanwhile, rainfall activity is expected to ease across most parts of Maharashtra, although districts including Pune and Satara continue to remain under an Orange Alert.

Earlier this week, the IMD confirmed that the Southwest Monsoon had covered the entire country on July 9, just one day later than its normal arrival date, marking the completion of its seasonal advance across India.

Waterlogging Remains a Major Concern

With heavy rainfall expected to continue, waterlogging is likely to pose significant challenges for construction projects, industrial facilities, commercial complexes, and mining operations. Flooded work sites can delay ongoing projects, damage equipment, and disrupt business operations if excess water is not removed promptly.

Industry experts recommend that businesses operating in vulnerable locations take preventive measures and ensure that emergency dewatering systems are readily available to minimize downtime.
